I created Thompson Advisory Services to provide comprehensive and objective financial planning services to individuals and their families. I love what I do because I know it helps my clients have happier relationships, better health and more fulfilling lives.

When we start working together, I will ask you how you want to lead your life and what your financial planning goals are. Then I will help you create a financial plan that supports your vision. The plan will be comprehensive and include everything from tax preparation and planning to investment strategies, insurance and estate and retirement planning.

I charge just one annual retainer fee for the work we do together. This enables you to meet or speak with me whenever you have a question or your life circumstances and financial goals change.

My background and experience

After graduating from Harvard Law School and Cornell University, I created a successful law practice with two global law firms in which I practiced tax law. I am an expert in state and federal income taxation, as well as in the areas of qualified pensions and retirement plans, municipal bonds, complex derivatives, stock options, equity-based compensation plans, and the selection and formation of business entities.

I also have extensive experience defending taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities and am licensed to practice law in both California and Oregon. I am a registered investment advisor with the States of California and Oregon, a member of the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners (where I serve on the board of directors), the State Bars of California and Oregon, and the American Bar Association.

I live in Portland with my wife and two young sons. In my free time, I coach Little League baseball and volunteer with my children’s school.
